The SEZ was established in the Irkutsk district of the Irkutsk region in 2007 by the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 72 of February 3, 2007 "On the establishment of a special economic zone of a tourist and recreational type on the territory of the Irkutsk regional municipal entity of the Irkutsk region".

In 2010 by the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation from September 8, 2010 year no. 692 "On the special economic zone of a tourist-and-recreational type established in the territory of the Irkutsk region" the SEZ borders were expanded by the inclusion of the "Sobolinaya Mountain" section in Sljudjansky district of the Irkutsk region.

In accordance with the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation dated September 29, 2016 year no. 980 "Issues of creating special economic zones of tourist-and-recreational type on the territory of the Irkutsk region and Kabardino-Balkarian Republic" borders of SEZ were updated due to the exclusion of the "Bol'shoye Goloustnoe" section.

The total area of the territory is 756.97 hectares. The period of validity is 49 years.

According to the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated August 30, 2001, No. 643 "On Approving the List of Activities Prohibited in the Central Ecological Zone of the Baikal Natural Area", the construction of buildings and structures (or their parts) the functioning of which is not related to the creation and development of a special protected natural areas of federal importance and special economic zones of a tourist-recreational type, in the SEZ of the BNA is prohibited. Thus, SEZ is a mechanism for the legal conduct of tourism business on the shores of the lake Baikal.

The Angarsk technopark is a managed by a single operator complex of real estate and infrastructure that allows to compactly place industrial business projects and provides conditions for the efficient operation of modern production facilities.

Achievements of Angarsk Technopark

In 2012, Angarsk technopark was recognized as the winner of the contest the Best Angarsk Entrepreneur in the "Brand of the Year" nomination.

In 2013 Angarsk technopark was awarded the national prize "For a significant contribution to the development of the industrial parks industry", established by Sberbank of Russia in conjunction with the Association of Industrial Parks of Russia. The authorities of Sberbank highly appreciated the contribution of management company's team to the successful development of the Angarsk technopark as the largest and so far the only really operating industrial site in Eastern Siberia and the Far East.

Angarsk technopark has passed the certification procedure in the Association of Industrial Parks of Russia. Only 20 industrial parks out of 93 operating in the country have such certificate, and therefore meet the stringent international standards for industrial parks.

Angarsk Technopark was included in the first industry survey "Industrial Parks of Russia" of the Industrial Parks Association, Map and Ernst & Young company industrial review of Industrial Parks, Federal investment site Database.
